DEF CON 30 Call For Villages!
DEF CON 29 was an awesome year with lots of villages participating online, in-person, or a hybrid of both. We are ready to do it again and make it even better!! We have already begun planning DEF CON 30, and have accepted returning villages. Check out the DEF CON Forums to get an idea of the village content we have already accepted. Sometimes village organizers retire when it's time to pass the torch, sometimes we are lacking in covering a certain topic you can host a village on!
If you are interested in hosting a village at DEF CON, here are some requirements you should know up front:
- Must abide by the DEF CON official rules and policies. (Code of conduct, Privacy, Press rules, Sponsorships, etc.) Villages should be staffed appropriately with hackers that are vetted by your village.
- Villages hours of operation should match con hours: Friday to Sat 10:00 - 18:00, Sunday 10:00 to 15:00, and be open to any DEF CON attendee with a badge.
- Do not sell items, have vendors, sponsor exhibits, or peddle wares within. If you want to sell, you must coordinate sales with [email protected] to be pre-approved. Be aware you will need to comply with Nevada state tax laws.
- Only a set number of village talks will be recorded.
- We are looking for Villages with hands on events and activities, workshops, AMA's with experts, walkthroughs, etc. Not speaking tracks all weekend.
- Space & Stages are limited, and the one thing we cannot easily make more of. You will need to use your space wisely and meet any safety and logistical requirements as requested by the venue.
- If your village plans to hold a contest, event, or party, you will need to submit a separate application for that activity. See the Call for Everything Index page.
- Please read the Village FAQ.
If you are interested in running a Village, email [email protected] with a completed application form (submit one form per Village). Please be as detailed as possible so that our review board can best evaluate the submission. All submissions are due by Feb 28, 2022.
After your submission is received, we will respond and let you know we got it. If you have not received confirmation of your submission after two business days, contact [email protected]
Pro tip: most of the time we’re in your spam box.
Thanks for helping grow DEF CON with new opportunities to help others learn and expand their knowledge. We hope that it was an enjoyable experience for those who have previously participated and we’re looking forward to continuing to grow with the community!
Thank you and good luck!
