DEF CON Arts & Entertainment Presents: Night of the Ninjas featuring TAIKOPROJECT

night of the ninjas promo image

Main Event
Join us Saturday night (Aug 13) at the Forum for an experience never seen at a hacker con! Treat yourself to a performance of modern taiko drumming, blending traditional formats with innovative arrangements and fresh artistry from TAIKOPROJECT.

TAIKOPROJECT performs at 23:00. Doors open all day. Pre-show magician Kody Hildebrand at 20:00. Music starts at 21:00 and continues to 02:00!

Contest – Win the cost of a DEF CON badge - $360!
Now for your turn to participate! We seek the best dressed in the style of either classic ninja or 15th century Japanese. The winner will receive a cash prize equal to the cost of the DEF CON 30 badge. Judging will be based on decibel measurement of crowd cheering for each contestant. The contestant with the loudest audience reaction wins! We are looking for creative use of materials, historical accuracy, and demonstration of respect to tradition. Bonus points if you can describe the historical significance or meaning of the components of your chosen dress. Culturally insensitive dress will be disqualified.

Contest immediately following TAIKOPROJECT.

About TAIKOPROJECT
TAIKOPROJECT was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, California by a group of *****, emerging taiko drummers led by Bryan Yamami and Masato Baba.  The group continues to define a modern American style of taiko, blending traditional forms with an innovative and fresh aesthetic.

TAIKOPROJECT first made waves when they became the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest in 2005, besting all of the Japanese taiko groups in the competition. That year, they were cast in the Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial, the first and still only national advertising campaign to prominently feature taiko. Since then, the group has performed on the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, NBC's "The Voice,"Syfy's Face/Off, The X-Factor, rock band 30 Seconds to Mars' "Up in the Air" music video, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, the iHeartRadio Music Festival, and were honored with the prestigious Visionary Award from East West Players.
