Call for Demo Labs is Now Closed
The DEF CON Demo Lab is a dedicated area for hackers to show off a project or tool they have been working on. The Demo Lab format is in a smaller space than a full talk, and it is intended to foster an environment for you to interact with fellow hackers, answer questions, and get feedback from the community on the project. Even if your project is in its early stages, or still developing consider submitting it.
Presenters will be given a dedicated 2-hour time-slot and a location to present their tool or project, describe how it came about, show what it does, how it works, and why we should add it to our own hacker armory. We encourage the demos to be approximately 20 minutes long with an additional 10 minute Q&A, and repeat the demo several times during the 2 hour window so as to give attendees plenty of opportunity to see the project.
If you’re interested in presenting your project in the DEF CON Demo Lab here’s what we’re going to need from you:
Presenter Name:
Co-presenters, if any (restricted to one additional co-presenter):
Tool or Project Name:
Short Abstract (one or two paragraphs, what is your tool, what does it do?):
Short Developer Bio (one paragraph per presenter):
URL to any additional information:
Detailed Explanation of Tool:
Supporting Files, Code, etc (or a link to the files or code):
Level of development of the project (Early stages, prototype, solid and working, mature, etc):
Project’s target audience (Offense, Defense, AppSec, Mobile, Hardware, etc):
All submissions must be in plain text, in the body of an email. Documents, PDFs, links to videos as the submission, etc., will not be accepted. Provide the information we are asking for in plain text please. Focus on giving us the information we need to make our decisions. Submissions which do not provide the requested information will not be considered.
Also note: Your tool or hardware must be open source. This is about you sharing what you’ve created with the community and getting them excited about using it / contributing to it. This is not the place to sell things. There is a vendor area for those looking to pitch something or sell something.
Here is what you’ll get if you are selected:
A space in the DEF CON Demo Lab to do your demo, a hard-wired network connection, a small table and stand, monitors to present your screen, and power. You will have a published 2 hour dedicated time slot to show off your stuff. Oh, and you'll get a DEF CON badge as well, so that's cool. Prior to the event you will have a dedicated space in the online forums. All of this will give you exposure to over 20,000 hackers on site, and exposure to countless individuals through the DEF CON website, forums, and twitter feed.
You’ll be showing off your project to a highly technical audience which will drive conversation, innovation, and maybe even controversy - we can’t be certain so we’ll leave that to you! Get your submissions in now and we’ll pick the most promising folks to face the masses in August. Good Luck, and we’ll see you at DEF CON!
Interested? Email to demolab [at] defcon [dot] org by May 1st, 2023 and we'll respond with any questions we may have. Note: late submissions will not be considered, so get your submissions in promptly.
Thanks!
