Submission Instructions
To submit your workshop proposal, please cut and paste the Submission Form below into the body of an email or within a single .txt file and send it to workshops[at]defcon[dot]org. We request that applications are in plain text only to avoid formatting errors. If you are submitting multiple talks, please submit them as separate emails.
If you have not received confirmation of your submission after two (2) business days of submission, please check your spam folder, whitelist defcon.org, and search for mail from sinderznashes[at]gmail[dot]com, then contact us again at workshops[at]defcon[dot]org.
All parts of the application listed in the “Call for Workshops Form” must be completed in full to be considered a valid submission.
Special Considerations
When submitting a Call for Workshop, please consider the following:
- Do not require the use of a special document viewer or submit an external web site.
- Provide definitions for acronyms and examples of prior work related to the submission.
- Instructors are responsible for choosing workshop assistants and providing their names to the Workshop leads at least one (2) weeks ahead of the workshop.
- DEF CON will provide a room monitor for the workshop to ensure instructors receive reasonable support to run their workshop.
The following are common issues identified in workshop submissions:
- Submission is missing an adequate abstract, detailed outline, bio.
- The outline is not significantly more detailed than the abstract and/or bio.
- Submissions did not include the form, but only attached slides, papers, or point to a URL.
- Submissions that have withheld details or have knowingly falsified details.

Abstract
Summarize what your training will cover, attendees will read this to get an idea of what they should know before training, and what they will learn after. Use this to section to broadly describe how technical your class is, what tools will be used, and what materials to read in advance to get the most out of your training. This abstract is the primary way people will be drawn to your session.
Trainer Bio(s)
(not to exceed 1337 characters total)
Note: This text will be used for the website and printed materials and should be written in the third person (Using your name and preferred pronouns). Cover any professional or hacker history that is relevant to you and the presentation, which may include past jobs, tools that you have written, etc. Let people know who you are and why you are qualified to speak on your topic. If you prefer, you may write your bio under a pseudonym.
Please include co-speaker bios in this section as well.
Detailed Outline
Note: This is the most important section on the application. You must provide a detailed outline containing the main points and navigation through your workshop. Show the review board how you intend to begin, where you intend to lead the class, and how you plan to get there. Your outline should be in simple text. Please do not submit slides, docs, or PDFs as an outline. The review board likes submissions that include references to prior works and research you used in developing your workshop. The more detailed your outline then the better we can review your class against other submissions (and the higher chance you have of being accepted).
Any Supporting File(s)
List and describe any supporting files, links, etc. that could provide additional information about your workshop.
